A good, refining read, although I wish a second edition would be written with an expansion of internet and electronic conversational etiquette, which the authors only touched upon lightly.

And, while the information is valuable and the narration excellent, it is hard to take in large doses. I read this book three years ago. I’ve been trapped in some pretty dull conversations.

But as someone who is prone to the faults of interrupting and talking too much about myself, this was a good reminder and I enjoyed it as a quick little read. Author Margaret Shepherd clearly pinpoints the traps and falls of rude conversation and aptly suggests remedies to that.
Want to Read Currently Reading Read. This is a great handbook for those of us who are naturally socially awkward. Worth a read for anyone looking to avoid being a bore at any party.

A good book is one that does not drain me, but wets my appetite and subtlety encourages me to read even more. This book is very good at providing basics in polite conversation.

Don’t start a conversation with, “you’ve put on some weight,” don’t tell a mother that her newborn looks like E. I took this out from the library in a hope to help me find ways to have better conversations. Two stars for a few almost-interesting tricks about how to approach conversations in a different-than-usual way, but that’s about it.
Anyone not raised by apes should already have enough couth to realize what this book is advocating. Beyond that, this book presents valuable tips for conversation as well as new approaches to situations you may yet to have mastered. Even when I point this out to her – it doesn’t sink in that she’s talking and NOT listening. Maybe it was just not the right week for me to read this, but I was not impressed and do not think it offered me anything of value. Thanks for telling us about the problem.
I really liked the quality of her narration. The book’s information was extremely basic don’t be dull, don’t be rude, don’t interruptand isn’t going to turn a bore into conveesatiei charmer or a wallflower into a sparkler. In large doses it was a sleep-aid.
As Robert Louis Stevenson said, “The most important art is to omit”; the key to being a master conversationalist is to listen at least as much as you talk. I love you, Kika! No trivia or quizzes yet.
