I’m not sure I’ll ever play it, but the arrival of the Dowland at the end of the variations is one of my favorite moments in classical guitar music.
Dreaming ensues, for once seeming to offer a break from the agitated manner of the previous variants. But it, too, gradually divulges a restless spirit, despite its slow pacing and ethereal character. It’s a visual thing.
